Dj needles

When you're looking at DJ needles, you're likely to notice that there are many different styles.  Within those different styles, there are different models made by different companies, and even within those companies multiple “qualities” or “grades” of needles are available.  So which ones should you invest in?

The first thing you'll want to do as you approach the DJ scene is get advice from people you trust.  Whether that's people in the scene, at music stores, or even just a friend of a friend, get information from them on brands and types of DJ needles that have worked well for them in the past.  Continue to gather information until you feel comfortable starting to make investments.

Once you have that information, invest in DJ needles, but realize you're still in an experimental phase.  There are multiple cartridges and needle types depending on what you're doing (scratching, recording, and so on), so focus in on one specific type or need that you have, and experiment in that particular category.  Buy a brand, and if it seems to work, keep it on hand.  These aren't ridiculously expensive, however, so it's a good idea to try at least a couple other types so you get a feel for the different sounds and setups available to you.

This is how you're going to find the DJ needles that work well for you, and you can always re-sell the ones you don't like (on eBay, through classifieds, or similar) or keep them around as spares.  It's a good idea to try out the different types, brands, and qualities of needle as you progress so that you can establish a unique sound that you are comfortable with.
