The first thing you'll need to get in order to get going is two DJ turntables. You can get these in sets or you can get these independently, but you'll want at least the two of them, and you'll want to go for the higher quality end. DJ sound systems rely on these heavily, and it's better to get a used version of something that's high quality than a new version of something mediocre. You'll also want to pick up a couple of slip mats to accompany your turntables. If you're really hurting for money, you can make your own out of felt. You'll also need to get two DJ cartridges. These sometimes come in different settings for different sounds, and if you're looking to save money, you can get turntables that came per-equipped. A DJ mixer is the next item that's going to be mandatory. A solid mixer is going to run you at least a couple hundred dollars, but don't skimp on this. It's central to what you're doing and a poor mixer makes you sound like a bad DJ with a bad DJ sound system. The final thing you'll need is a nice set of DJ headphones, and these aren't too expensive (you can get great ones from Technics for $50 or less online). If you don't go for Technics brand, make sure that you keep them light weight and high quality, since DJ sound systems can ware out your ears too. |
