Electronic percussion
Most DJs use electronic percussion, which comes in the form of a drum machine, to add an extra amount of musicality to their performance. Electronic percussion is also used in many major genres of music. This gives the DJ an extra bit of credibility because they often have a hard time being considered true musicians in most music loving circles. Drum machines allow DJs to produce their own types of music to release in self-promotion CDs called mixtapes. A mixtape can often sell hundreds of copies and provide the DJ with the extra dose of publicity they so desperately needed. The best DJs find a way to transform themselves into producers somewhere down the line in their careers. They might end up making a lot more money with producing, but DJing is always their first love.
The best drum machines can end up costing you a fortune, but you can get reasonably priced drum machines too. The only difference between an expensive drum machine and a cheap drum machine is the quality of the sounds it makes. It’s better to train yourself how to put electronic percussion into your music on an inexpensive drum machine than to ruin an expensive drum machine because you didn’t know what you were doing. Using a drum machine isn’t difficult. Figuring out how to string together a decent sounding stream of drums is a different story altogether. Practice makes perfect and before you know it you will be producing sounds better than the best DJs in the world. Your skills with electronic percussion will be admired and envied. |
