Mic stands

Mic stands are used in a lot of different ways for a lot of different performance mediums, whether that's vocals, stand up comedy, speeches and debate, or even some theatrical presentations.  Having a mic stand that works right and that is secure is important for all of these different fields, so here are a few basic tips for getting your mic stand working for you the way you want it to work for you.

The first thing is always to make sure that it sees secure.  One way to make sure that your wire connection at the bottom of the mic remains secure is to wrap the cord once around the pole of the mic stand.  This simply reduces the amount of weight and stress pulled at the point where the wire connects to the mic.

Push down on the base plate and twist the mic stand in order to make sure that the mic stand is in a secure location.  Just making sure that the rod is securely in place when at the height it's going to be used it as very important.

It's often a good idea to have the performer themselves check the mic stand to be certain that the height of the mic stand works for their upcoming performance, since the security of the mic may change depending on the exact height of the mic.

Everything else for the standing mic is going to be determined by the sound tests and other items on the stage, as well as any uses the mic stand is going to have in the show, so being thorough in your tests and knowing the show are also two key factors.
