For a DJ, a microphone is only important when they’re trying to get the crowd involved in their show.  Crowd participation is a crucial part of any DJ’s show because if they don’t have it, they could easily be replaced by a nice stereo system and a few speakers.  The role of the DJ is to play music, but it’s also to get the crowd into the music.  There’s no better way to do that than drum up enthusiasm through the usual “throw your hands in the air” gimmicks.  Some DJs forgo this part of their show and hand the microphone to an MC or singer so they can do the work for them.  DJs are the masterminds behind every club you’ve been to that plays good music.  They’re even smarter if they have an effective MC spreading the word about how great they are.
The difference between an inexpensive microphone and an expensive one is the quality of sound you’re going to get from it.  If you can’t afford an expensive microphone, it’s no big deal.  There are plenty of affordable options out there that can get the job done.  You just have to search high and low to find an inexpensive microphone you can buy that isn’t going to make you sacrifice quality to save a few bucks.  If a microphone is a big part of your show, we recommend that you invest in one of the higher end models.  The sound you get is going to be so much better and the product will last longer too.
