Studio monitors

Studio monitors are used to ensure your show sounds the best it possibly can.  They give you an idea of what your music really sounds like.  You will hear things at the turntables that might not be coming across in other parts of the performance venue.  Room acoustics play a big part in changing the way your music sounds.  A big room can make your music bounce all over the place, distorting what you end up hearing when it gets back to you.  High end venues can afford all of the acoustic enhancing additions they can place on their walls, but smaller venues don’t have the funds to get this done.  As a result, you can’t trust what you hear unless it’s coming out of your near field monitor, which is the kind of studio monitor you can keep between 3-5 feet from you.
You might see enormous monitors in places that have bass traps and other devices, but when you’re in a small space all you need is a small monitor.  The near field model is the best option for this kind of settings.  You’re able to hear the sound directly because the monitor is so close to you.  Since it is so close to you, you don’t need to have the volume up very high.  This makes it so less of the sound bounces back at you after its journey to the walls and corners.  In order to have the best show possible, you’re going to want to invest in solid studio monitors.
